Dave Curry

Board Chairman, Co-Founder

Dave CurryDave is a successful entrepreneur having founded, taken public, and exited two companies for nearly $1B and has over 30 years of combined telecommunications and software industry experience. Prior to starting Demand Energy in 2008, he was President & CEO of World Wide Packets, a layer-2, point-to-point Ethernet switch vendor to Comcast, Clearwire, & AT&T that was acquired by Ciena in 2008. 

Before World Wide Packets, he co-founded Architel, a provisioning software telecom OSS vendor to Verizon, Cable & Wireless, BT, NYNEX, and GTE that was taken public in 1998 and subsequently acquired by Nortel in 2000. In 1996, Dave was selected Canadian Entrepreneur of the Year for his leadership at Architel.

Gregg Patterson

CEO, President & Board Director

Gregg PattersonGregg Patterson is CEO and President of Demand Energy Networks.  Prior to joining Demand Energy Gregg was President of Advanced Energy’s Solar Business Unit, where he successfully grew that business to be the market-share leader in Commercial and Utility inverters for North America.  Advanced Energy acquired PV Powered, the company that Gregg led as CEO from January 2007, through May of 2010.  Gregg turned around and built PV Powered from $5M to $80M in revenues and the market share leader of the commercial solar inverter market.

Prior to joining PV Powered, Gregg was a Vice President of Hewlett Packard in the successful Printing and Imaging Group, where his responsibilities included general management of $1B+ businesses spanning both enterprise and consumer segments, and HP’s acquisition and integration of several companies.  In addition to his GM roles, Gregg led strategic technology platform development (HW, FW, SW and online services teams) supporting multiple business sectors.  Gregg has managed worldwide R&D teams of 300+ engineers and led global procurement and operational efforts at HP growing the Deskjet Product line from several thousand units per month to more than 3 million units per month over a period of 5 years. Gregg graduated from the University of Washington with a BSME, and was awarded an HP Fellowship to attend Stanford University, where he received his Masters in Engineering. 

Shane Johnson

Vice President of Global Operations

shane johnsonShane was Vice President of Professional Services at Ciena prior to joining Demand Energy. Prior to its acquisition, he was Vice President of Customer Service & Support at World Wide Packets. While there, Shane developed and implemented a successful global support, training, and professional services division.

Prior, Shane led global Systems Engineering and APAC business development at World Wide Packets, and spent the first 10 years of his career in the electric utility business at Douglas County PUD. Shane has over 20 years of combined electric utility and telecom experience leading the implementation of large scale IP-based optical networks, utility automation and SCADA projects.

Doug Staker

Vice President of Global Sales

doug stakerPrior to joining Demand Energy in early 2009, Doug was Vice President & General Manager of International Sales & Marketing for Itron Inc, a leading provider of technology to automate the electric, gas & water utility industry. He was specifically responsible for developing international markets & management of their overseas subsidiaries.

Prior to this role, he was responsible for product line management & product development of fixed network and residential Automatic Meter Reading systems, which generated over $1B of revenue for the company. His previous experience includes business development, product line management and product development. Doug has over 25 years of utility industry experience.

Mike Fife

Chief Technology Officer

mikefifeDr. Mike Fife held engineering director positions at PV Powered and Advanced Energy where his team designed commercial inverters with the highest levels of reliability and efficiency in the industry. Prior to his work in the solar industry, Mike was a lead reliability consulting engineer at Exponent. Mike started his career at the Air Force Research Laboratory Electric Propulsion Group and NASA, where he oversaw the design, development, and qualification of mission-critical propulsion systems for Air Force satellites and developed key components of flight control systems for the first generation of fly-by-wire high performance fighter aircraft. Mike is a licensed Professional Engineer and holds a Ph.D. in Aeronautics and Astronautics from MIT. Mike has authored over 40 peer-reviewed technical papers and articles and holds several U.S. patents in the area of renewable energy.

Jim Barrett

Vice President of Engineering & Software Development

jim barrettFor 24 years Jim held various positions with Hewlett-Packard and Agilent Technologies including Manufacturing Engineering Manager, Worldwide Technology Reuse and Platforms Manager, R&D Manager, and Cellular Network Test Business-Unit Manager. Jim has managed the invention of 8 HP/Agilent product platforms in the wireless communications test arena.

In 2005 Jim became the R&D Director and Business-Unit Manager of an entrepreneurial startup company under Venture Corporation in developing an innovative family of wireless mesh networking systems tasked with doing large-scale wireless sensing/control and precise GPS-like location tracking in underground environments and inside of buildings. These products revolutionized worker safety and productivity in the hazardous work of underground mining. The numerous innovations embodied therein resulted in Jim being selected as one of four finalists for the World Technology Award. Jim is the inventor on patent claims covering 36 unique inventions and has written many papers that advance the state of the art in wireless, distributed computing, network monitoring and SCADA.

Erick Petersen

Vice President of Marketing & Business Development

erick petersonPrior to joining Demand Energy, Erick was part of the leadership team that turned around and built PV Powered to become the leading solar inverter company in North America. As the VP of Sales and Marketing at PV Powered, Erick hired the teams and crafted the positioning, brand and industry-leading customer experience that helped fuel the dramatic growth in market share and the eventual acquisition by Advanced Energy in 2010. At Advanced Energy, Erick took on the role of VP Business Development, Strategy and Government Affairs, supporting the successful integration of the two solar inverter business units.

Prior to PV Powered, Erick spent 10 years at Planar Systems, where in his final assignment as Vice President and General Manager of the company's Commercial Business Unit, he built the business from zero to $100M in three years. Erick holds a BS degree from Oregon State University, and graduated from the Advanced Executive Program of the Kellogg Graduate School of Business Administration at Northwestern University.
